Laundry Assistant

About the role

The Laundry Assistant will support Life Healthcare’s laundry operations, ensuring hospital linen is cleaned, pressed, and distributed efficiently across the Port Elizabeth region. This full‑time, onsite position involves handling, washing, folding, ironing and delivering linen to various clinical units.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with supervisors and maintain good housekeeping standards.
• Wash, dry, iron, fold and sort linen according to health‑and‑safety regulations.
• Collect, distribute and accurately record linen deliveries to all hospital units.
• Clean, mop and dust the laundry area and maintain laundry equipment.
• Control linen stock levels, perform stock‑takes and ensure quality of linen received and dispatched.
• Manage waste disposal in line with LHC laundry policies and relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) certificate.
• Previous laundry or similar experience is an advantage.
• Ability to work shifts, including weekends, and perform physical tasks.
• Good interpersonal skills and a team‑oriented attitude.
• Knowledge of a hospital environment is beneficial.
