Kidswear Buyer

About the role

Our client, a leading fashion retailer in Cape Town, is seeking a dynamic Kidswear Buyer to shape the children’s apparel assortment. The role combines trend analysis, product development and supplier negotiation to deliver a balanced, value‑driven range.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute seasonal Kids Apparel ranges with focus on fit, function and value.
• Analyse sales data, customer insights and market trends to inform buying decisions.
• Manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and ensure margin targets are achieved.
• Collaborate with design, planning and sourcing teams to align product delivery with the company’s strategy.
• Monitor product performance and take proactive actions to optimise sales.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of retail buying or procurement experience in clothing, preferably in value‑price segment.
• Strong knowledge of South Africa’s retail clothing market, competitors and licensed product processes.
• Understanding of product fit, fabrics and customer needs in the kids segment.
• Grade 12 (Matric) required; a qualification in fashion or merchandising is an advantage.

Required skills

• Ability to analyse numerical data and translate insights into buying decisions.
• Excellent negotiation and supplier management capabilities.
• Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with CAD approvals and colour/fabric assessment.
