Junior Tax Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Junior Tax Accountant to join our finance team. The role will support the preparation and filing of tax returns, assist with audits and ensure compliance with South African tax regulations. You will work closely with senior tax professionals and the broader finance department.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare income tax and provisional tax returns.
• Assist with SARS and external audits, including gathering documentary evidence.
• Support VAT reconciliations, returns and overall VAT compliance.
• Maintain e‑filing profiles and the Tax Clearance Certificate database.
• Handle SARS queries and perform tax and VAT health checks.
• Research ad‑hoc tax issues and propose practical solutions.
• Provide tax administration support to the tax and finance teams.

Required profile

• Finance‑related degree or currently studying towards one.
• 2–3 years of relevant tax experience in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of South African tax legislation, including Income Tax, VAT, PAYE and WHT.
• Excellent communication, numerical and time‑management skills.
• Ability to adapt to a fast‑paced, changing work environment.

Required skills

• Understanding of tax risk and control environments.
• Experience with e‑filing systems and SARS audit procedures.
• Proficiency in VAT compliance and tax health‑check processes.
