Junior Mechanical Draughtsman

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Junior Mechanical Draughtsman to join our technical team in Johannesburg East. This role offers hands‑on exposure to mechanical design, manufacturing environments and engineering projects while working alongside experienced professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Create and update detailed mechanical drawings using CAD software.
• Prepare manufacturing and assembly drawings in line with engineering standards.
• Assist engineers and senior draughtsmen with design modifications and project documentation.
• Maintain drawing registers, engineering documentation and ensure accuracy against project specifications.
• Liaise with production teams to resolve drawing‑related queries.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
• Conduct drawing revisions and updates as required.
• Assist with the preparation of bill of materials (BOMs) and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Draughting or a related field.
• 1‑3 years of experience in a mechanical draughting environment.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and basic understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
• Strong attention to detail, good communication and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
• Experience with CAD software for creating 2D and 3D mechanical drawings.
