Junior Mechanical Designer (Draughtsperson) – Durban

About the role

Our client, a growing specialist manufacturing business in Pinetown, is seeking a Junior Draughtsperson / Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of fiberglass and steel products. This position is ideal for an engineering graduate or technically‑minded draughtsperson with solid 3D CAD experience who enjoys turning concepts into accurate, practical designs. Experienced designers looking for a hands‑on role are also encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Produce accurate fabrication/shop and assembly drawings, primarily using SolidWorks.
• Develop and maintain precise 3D models and technical drawings.
• Create clear assembly and installation manuals using Adobe Illustrator.
• Maintain a high standard of accuracy, neatness, and attention to detail across all documentation.
• Assist with quoting, parts ordering, and project costing.
• Provide support for quality control and project scheduling.
• Collaborate with workshop, design, and sales teams to ensure drawings meet project requirements.
• Support broader design and technical project needs as required.

Required profile

• Strong technical drawing and 3D modelling skills.
• Good working knowledge of SolidWorks / 3D CAD.
• Strong attention to detail and a technically‑minded problem‑solving approach.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Effective communication and teamwork across functions.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (advantageous).
• Experience with Adobe Illustrator or similar graphic design software (advantageous).
• Experience creating assembly or installation manuals (advantageous).
• Previous exposure to manufacturing, fabrication or product design (advantageous).
