Junior Logistics & Transport Operations Assistant

About the role

West Coast Personnel is seeking a highly organised Junior Logistics & Transport Operations Assistant to support its commodity trading operations team in Kenilworth, Cape Town. This full‑time, in‑office position offers recent graduates or early‑career professionals the chance to gain hands‑on experience in shipping, logistics coordination, and trade execution support.

Key responsibilities

• Support day‑to‑day execution of containerised and bulk cargo shipments.
• Coordinate logistics and transport arrangements with carriers, agents, warehouses and suppliers.
• Monitor shipping schedules, transport movements and delivery timelines, and proactively follow up on delays.
• Prepare, check, collate and distribute trade, shipping and transport documentation, including inspection reports and assay certificates.
• Assist with the preparation and verification of Letters of Credit and contract‑related paperwork.
• Check invoices and operational cost records, maintaining accurate filing systems and document‑control processes.
• Update spreadsheets and operational trackers, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
• Communicate operational updates clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Fluent in Afrikaans, both spoken and written.
• Relevant tertiary qualification or recent graduate status.
• 1–2 years of experience in logistics, transport coordination or related operational support.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast‑paced environment.
