Junior Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

1-grid.com is a fast‑growing web hosting company in Cape Town looking for a hands‑on Junior Infrastructure Engineer. You will work on‑site daily, collaborating with an agile team to design, implement, test and continuously deliver new features and products for customers.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and perform ongoing maintenance on servers and network equipment.
• Provide IT support to staff and customers, responding to server and network issues.
• Carry out system administration tasks such as software installation, updates, security patches and hardware maintenance.
• Upgrade internal system components, including CPUs, memory and hard drives.
• Run hardware diagnostics and troubleshoot faulty equipment.
• Develop standards, procedures and knowledge‑base articles for systems and network operations.
• Assist senior engineers in designing and modifying network systems and application infrastructure.
• Participate in out‑of‑business‑hours infrastructure maintenance and emergency support for critical incidents.

Required profile

• Good understanding of Microsoft and Linux operating systems and associated products.
• Network troubleshooting experience with a solid understanding of DNS.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
• Driver's licence and own transport for daily travel to the office.
• Physical ability to handle equipment, lift up to 20 kg and perform routine data‑center tasks.
