Junior Data Scientist

About the role

We are looking for a Junior Data Scientist to join Old Mutual’s analytics team in South Africa. You will work with large, complex datasets to uncover insights that drive product, service and strategy improvements across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, clean and explore data from internal and external sources to generate standard insights.
• Build, assess and refine machine‑learning models and predictive analytics solutions.
• Perform descriptive and exploratory data analysis, forecasting, pattern identification and trend analysis.
• Provide recommendations to enhance data and analytics models and contribute to the overall analytics strategy.
• Support business‑intelligence initiatives by creating dashboards and reports that answer business questions.
• Consult with stakeholders to standardise data recording practices and ensure data quality.
• Assist in gathering and documenting business requirements through interviews and workflow analysis.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or early‑career professional with a strong interest in data science.
• Ability to work independently on data collection, analysis and reporting tasks.
• Willingness to continuously develop technical capabilities and stay updated on industry best practices.
