Junior Attorney

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Junior Attorney to join our Legal Process Team. The role focuses on litigation support, case management and stakeholder liaison, with a preference for candidates based in Pietermaritzburg.

Key responsibilities

• Draft summonses, applications, affidavits and other legal documents; prepare briefs and legal templates; appear in court when required.
• Register, upload and manage matters on CaseLines and Court Online; monitor progress of assigned matters.
• Profile and pursue legal action against juristic entities and sureties; conduct deceased estate and insolvency searches; manage post‑judgment accounts, warrants of execution and bank attachments.
• Liaise with liquidators, trustees, executors, correspondent attorneys, courts, sheriffs and our Johannesburg office; respond promptly to court queries and prepare debtor meeting reports.
• Provide occasional training to colleagues and deliver opinions on credit law and legislative developments.

Required profile

• Completed articles of clerkship; admitted attorney or admission pending (preferred).
• Strong drafting, analytical and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple matters simultaneously.
• Familiarity with CaseLines, Court Online and litigation procedures is advantageous.
