IT Intern – Hands‑On Support Role

About the role

The IT Intern will support the IT Department of Wispeco Aluminium, gaining hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment. Working under senior staff, the intern will assist with day‑to‑day technical support, help‑desk activities and participation in IT projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑line support for hardware, software and network issues.
• Install, configure and maintain computers, printers and peripheral devices.
• Assist with user account administration, password resets and access management.
• Troubleshoot basic IT problems and escalate complex issues.
• Set up and maintain desktops, laptops, mobile devices and workstations.
• Monitor IT equipment inventory and keep asset records up to date.
• Support network connectivity troubleshooting under senior guidance.
• Assist with software updates, system upgrades and patch management.
• Log support requests and resolutions in the ticketing system.
• Help create and maintain IT documentation, user guides and SOPs.
• Support onboarding and off‑boarding equipment allocation and collection.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
• Post‑matric IT qualification or relevant certificate.
• Previous IT‑related experience is advantageous.
• Willingness to undergo psychometric assessments.

Required skills

• Hardware installation and configuration.
• Software configuration and troubleshooting.
• Basic network troubleshooting.
• Use of ticketing systems for incident logging.
• Patch management and system update procedures.
