Intermediate Backend C#/.NET Engineer

About the role

Protium is seeking an Intermediate Backend C#/.NET Engineer to join its Cape Town team. The role focuses on building and shipping production‑grade APIs, services, integrations and backend systems using C#.NET and Microsoft/Azure technologies. It is a hybrid position with 2–3 days per week in the Claremont office.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain production‑grade REST APIs and backend services.
• Implement business logic, integrations and data‑access layers using Entity Framework Core, Dapper and SQL Server.
• Translate technical designs into clean, maintainable code and ensure performance, security and scalability.
• Debug and resolve issues across services, databases, APIs and client‑facing flows.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, CI/CD pipelines and uphold engineering standards.
• Leverage AI‑assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve delivery speed and quality.

Required profile

• Strong experience with C# and .NET / ASP.NET Core.
• Proven ability to build and maintain REST APIs.
• Solid understanding of SQL Server and relational database design.
• Commitment to clean code, good abstractions and quality.
• Capability to own backend features end‑to‑end, from implementation through testing and release support.
• Clear communication, proactive risk identification and a collaborative mindset.
• Based in Cape Town and available for regular office meet‑ups in Claremont.
