Interior Designer – Space Planning & Furniture Design

About the role

Our manufacturing client in Milnerton, Cape Town is seeking an Interior Designer with 3‑5 years of experience in space planning and interior layout optimisation. The role focuses on furniture design, cabinetry construction, and translating technical drawings into manufacturable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop interior layouts and concepts for client projects.
• Create detailed 2D and 3D designs using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Design bespoke furniture, cabinetry, and interior components.
• Produce manufacturing drawings and documentation for production.
• Optimise spaces for ergonomics, functionality and aesthetics.
• Select materials, finishes, fabrics and fittings, and compile FF&E schedules and mood boards.
• Collaborate with naval architects, engineers and production teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
• Participate in design reviews, incorporate feedback and support prototype development.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, quality requirements and relevant regulations.

Required profile

• Diploma in interior design or equivalent qualification.
• 3‑5 years of experience in space planning and interior layout optimisation.
• Strong understanding of furniture design and cabinetry construction.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and manufacturing requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS (essential).
• Proficiency in AUTOCAD.
• Familiarity with CATIA.
• Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
