In‑House Legal Counsel – Sandton

About the role

Our client, an award‑winning regulated financial services group, is seeking an experienced in‑house Legal Counsel to join its Sandton office. The role will provide commercial and corporate legal support across fund services, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and protecting the business’s interests.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, interpret and negotiate a wide range of commercial and corporate contracts.
• Provide clear legal opinions on corporate and commercial law matters.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise on potential impacts.
• Conduct legal and regulatory analysis for projects, client engagements and internal initiatives.
• Advise on data privacy and protection legislation.
• Maintain legal documentation, case files and support internal compliance training.
• Liaise with external counsel, regulators and government bodies on disputes and regulatory matters.
• Identify legal risks and contribute to risk‑management strategies.

Required profile

• Law degree with admission as an attorney or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience in a legal counsel, compliance or advisory role, preferably within a regulated financial services environment.
• Proven experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial and corporate agreements.
• Strong knowledge of AML/CFT, data protection and governance frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to provide commercially‑focused advice to senior management.
• Experience engaging with regulators, external counsel and professional advisors.
• High professional judgment, integrity and meticulous attention to detail.
