Infection Prevention Control Coordinator – Hospital Group

About the role

The Infection Prevention Control Coordinator will plan, develop and implement an infection control programme for a hospital, ensuring compliance with national standards and international best practice. This role supports both patient safety and staff wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Assist all hospital employees in preventing, identifying and controlling infections.
• Design and maintain an up‑to‑date infection control programme aligned with current standards.
• Notify the Department of Health of reportable diseases in a timely manner.
• Organise and document regular infection control and health‑and‑safety committee meetings.
• Maintain an accessible infection control file for nursing and housekeeping staff.
• Supervise the use of protective clothing for employees and visitors when required.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing qualification (Diploma/Degree in General Nursing; infection control certificate is advantageous).
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse.
• Knowledge of IPC protocols and ability to conduct microbial surveillance.
• Compulsory BLS certification.
• Clinical expertise within your specialty.
