Industrial Electrician – Manufacturing

About the role

Join a well‑established manufacturing company in Cape Town as an Industrial Electrician. You will be responsible for maintaining low‑voltage, high‑amp industrial machinery, ensuring plant reliability and minimizing production downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on plant electrical systems and equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair faults on industrial machinery to keep production running.
• Maintain power distribution, generators, control panels, and auxiliary equipment such as boiler systems.
• Inspect and service three‑phase systems, motors, soft starters, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
• Use testing tools (multimeters, insulation testers, ammeters) for diagnostics.
• Support electrical installations, upgrades, and machine modifications.
• Coordinate with approved suppliers for quotations and repairs.
• Enforce health, safety and environmental regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Assist with machine changeovers and mentor apprentices or trainees as needed.

Required profile

• Matric Certificate and Red Seal Electrician (Trade Tested) qualification (NQF Level 4).
• Completed electrical apprenticeship.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Proven ability to work independently and respond to breakdowns.

Required skills

• Three‑phase electrical systems.
• Motor control, soft starters and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
• Use of multimeters, insulation testers (Meggers) and ammeters.
• Generators and boiler system maintenance.
• PLC exposure / automation experience.
• Electrical fault‑finding and diagnostic techniques.
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety procedures.
