Industrial Designer

About the role

Our manufacturing client in Milnerton, Cape Town is seeking an experienced Industrial Designer / Interior Designer to lead space‑planning and interior layout optimisation projects. The role focuses on furniture and cabinetry design, translating client concepts into manufacturable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop interior layouts and design concepts that balance ergonomics, functionality and aesthetics.
• Create detailed 2D and 3D designs using SolidWorks, AutoCAD and, where applicable, CATIA.
• Design bespoke furniture, cabinetry and other interior components, producing full manufacturing drawings and documentation.
• Select materials, finishes, fabrics and fittings, and compile FF&E schedules and mood boards.
• Collaborate with naval architects, engineers and production teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
• Participate in design reviews, incorporate stakeholder feedback and support prototype development.
• Maintain compliance with company standards, quality requirements and relevant regulations.

Required profile

• Diploma in interior design or an equivalent qualification.
• 3‑5 years of experience in space planning, interior layout optimisation, furniture and cabinetry design.
• Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and manufacturing requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS (advantageous).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with CATIA (optional).
• Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
