Import/Export Controller – C&F

About the role

The Import/Export Controller – C&F will manage all customs clearance activities for sea‑freight shipments, ensuring compliance with South African regulations and supporting smooth logistics operations for Bidvest Marine Services.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with clients, service providers and shipping lines to obtain clearances and releases.
• Process import bills of entry, landing orders, VOCs, customs refunds and acquittals using Compu‑Clear/Easy Clear or similar systems.
• Handle queries from SARS, customs, ports authorities and arrange plant inspections, port health, state vet and NRCS releases.
• Reconcile supplier invoices, plan transport, and coordinate with warehouses, transporters and mines.
• Submit required documents to shipping lines, update Navis and follow up on ANF and shipping‑line invoices.
• Maintain accurate source documents, verify data entry and correct errors.
• Support after‑hours operations, knowledge sharing and development of customer relationships.

Required profile

• Experience registering shipments on Easy Clear or comparable programmes.
• Ability to frame and submit EDI bills of entry to SARS within statutory deadlines.
• Knowledge of tariff heading determination, break‑bulk, FCL and bulk shipments.
• Familiarity with Import/Export Control Act, prohibited and restricted goods.
• Strong stakeholder management and supplier/client account administration.
• Ability to work independently and stay updated on industry changes.
