Import Freight Clerk

About the role

The Import Freight Clerk supports MSC’s landside operations in Durban, handling invoicing, charge verification and documentation for import consignments. The role ensures compliance with MSC’s tariff, statutory requirements and client expectations while maintaining accurate records.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and release invoices based on the MSC Landside Tariff, recover third‑party charges and verify payment before consignment release.
• Process email and telephone queries, liaise with clients and carriers to resolve documentation or payment issues.
• Check and control release documentation, indemnities and BOE stops from SARS, police or other authorities.
• Monitor depot movements, tailboard examinations and over‑stay reports, ensuring all charges are accounted for.
• Update container status, ETA information and manifest corrections using the Navis system.
• Coordinate with carrier haulage on cartage rates and assist other departments as required.

Required profile

• Minimum Matric/Grade 12 qualification.
• At least three years of experience in a similar import freight or logistics administration role.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and meet daily deadlines.
• Willingness to work overtime or weekends when needed.

Required skills

• Proficient use of Microsoft Office.
• Experience with TPT’s Navis application for freight operations.
