ICP Technician – ICP‑OES / ICP‑MS

About the role

We are looking for detail‑oriented ICP Technicians to operate, maintain and optimise ICP‑OES and/or ICP‑MS instruments in our Johannesburg laboratory. The role supports routine elemental analysis for quality control and research projects within an ISO‑accredited environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate ICP‑OES/ICP‑MS instruments for routine and non‑routine elemental analysis.
• Perform calibration, standardisation and performance verification of the equipment.
• Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshoot instrument issues and coordinate service with vendors.
• Prepare samples using digestion, dilution, filtration and extraction techniques while maintaining chain‑of‑custody.
• Execute quality control checks (blanks, duplicates, spikes, certified reference materials) and participate in proficiency testing.
• Document analytical data, generate technical reports and support method validation initiatives.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Science, Applied Science or a related scientific discipline.
• 2–5 years of hands‑on experience operating ICP‑OES and/or ICP‑MS instrumentation.
