Hotel Duty Manager

About the role

The President Hotel is looking for a Duty Manager to act as Hotel Manager on Duty and oversee the smooth running of all operational departments throughout each shift. The role leads across the full hotel operation and makes a direct difference to the guest experience on every shift.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate Front Office, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, Kitchen, Maintenance, Security and other teams to resolve issues and maintain service.
• Stay visible in guest areas, engage with guests and anticipate their needs before they become concerns.
• Keep check-ins, check-outs, reservations and guest services running smoothly while monitoring service across Food and Beverage outlets.
• Take ownership of guest requests and complaints, coordinate practical solutions and follow up until resolved.
• Lead from the floor, support teams during peak periods and coach staff to maintain consistent service standards.
• Monitor service delivery, ensure standard operating procedures are followed and communicate outstanding issues clearly at shift handover.
• Oversee cashiering, billing and audit procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Required profile

• Hospitality qualification diploma or degree.
• 3 to 5 years of hotel operations experience, with exposure to both Front Office and Food and Beverage in a 4-star or 5-star property.
• Previous duty management experience in a 4 or 5 star hotel or luxury resort, managing both Front Office and Food and Beverage operations.
• Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach and motivate teams across departments.
• Sound judgement, calm decision-making and prompt resolution of guest concerns.
• South African citizenship and a valid South African ID.
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of OPERA PMS or a similar property management system.
• Sound understanding of Food and Beverage service operations.
