Health and Safety Officer – Telecommunications (Cape Town)

About the role

The Health and Safety Officer will ensure that all workplace activities comply with health, safety, ISO, and quality management system (QMS) standards. You will act as the primary safety consultant for telecommunications projects, supporting internal teams and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, maintain and improve the Health & Safety Management System in line with audited requirements and ISO standards.
• Maintain health and safety files for all departments and support proposal preparation, contract implementation, and documentation control.
• Provide H&S guidance for questionnaires, pre‑qualifications, tenders and contracts.
• Conduct site assessments, risk assessments, and issue permits for work at height or other high‑risk activities.
• Coordinate with internal departments and external auditors, schedule management reviews, and lead corrective‑action investigations.
• Act as lead auditor focusing on H&S regulatory requirements and ISO 45001/9001 compliance.
• Deliver training, update the training matrix, and facilitate weekly safety talks.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual H&S reports for management and customers.

Required profile

• Relevant degree or diploma in Health & Safety or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years of experience enforcing the OHS Act and managing safety in a telecommunications or construction environment.
• Broad knowledge of OHS legislation, ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and contractor management.
• Experience preparing and presenting safety documentation, reports and audits.
