Head of Software Engineering – Hybrid, Johannesburg

About the role

We are seeking a Head of Software Engineering to lead and evolve BSG’s software engineering capability in Johannesburg. The role combines strategic vision with hands‑on technical leadership, ensuring the team delivers market‑leading, high‑performing solutions for our clients and business.

Key responsibilities

• Attract, develop and retain top engineering talent, positioning BSG as an employer of choice.
• Define and evolve the software engineering capability strategy, service offerings and community of practice.
• Provide technical vision, set engineering standards, champion modern delivery practices and AI‑enabled development.
• Partner with clients and account leaders to translate technology investments into measurable business outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s (or Honours) degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or Information Systems; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
• 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 8+ years leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering enterprise‑scale solutions.

Required skills

• Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform certifications.
• Strong expertise in software architecture and Agile delivery methodologies.
• Experience with AI‑enabled software delivery and modern engineering practices.
