Group Head of Fleet – Durban

About the role

Our client, a dynamic car‑rental business, is looking for an experienced Group Head of Fleet to lead the entire fleet function. The role will shape fleet strategy, optimise utilisation and profitability, and ensure the fleet supports rapid business growth while delivering an excellent customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet strategy aligned with corporate objectives.
• Manage the full fleet lifecycle – planning, procurement, acquisition, maintenance, utilisation, replacement and disposal.
• Design investment and vehicle replacement plans to maximise return on assets.
• Lead vehicle procurement negotiations with OEMs, dealerships and strategic suppliers.
• Drive disposal strategies that protect resale values and limit depreciation.
• Oversee maintenance, licensing, compliance and asset performance to meet legal and operational standards.
• Monitor fleet costs, depreciation, CAPEX and cost of sales, identifying opportunities for profit improvement.
• Analyse fleet performance using business‑intelligence tools and present recommendations to the CEO and executive team.
• Collaborate with Revenue, Operations, Finance, Sales and Procurement to align fleet supply with demand.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, dealers and service providers.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing fleet management team.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading fleet management functions in a car‑rental or similar high‑volume environment.
• Strategic leadership with strong commercial and financial acumen.
• Ability to make data‑driven decisions and influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent negotiation skills and experience managing supplier relationships.
• Track record of driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
