Group Category Buyer – Raw Materials

About the role

Our client, a leading FMCG manufacturing company, is looking for an experienced Group Category Buyer to lead the procurement of raw materials, commodities, indirect materials and services across multiple business units. The role is strategic, commercially driven and requires close collaboration with manufacturing, supply chain, logistics and finance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute category and procurement strategies aligned with business objectives.
• Manage the full sourcing cycle – RFQs, tenders, negotiations, contract award and management.
• Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships to ensure quality, innovation and cost competitiveness.
• Conduct market analysis to monitor pricing trends, supply risks and sourcing opportunities.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to guarantee uninterrupted supply of raw materials.
• Drive cost‑saving initiatives while preserving product quality and supply continuity.
• Monitor supplier performance through KPIs and implement continuous improvement actions.
• Work with logistics and supply‑chain teams to optimise inventory levels and minimise waste.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, ethical sourcing and sustainability standards.
• Support new product development by sourcing innovative materials and solutions.
• Prepare regular procurement reports, spend analysis and category performance reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Management or related field.
• Preferably CIPS or APICS qualification.
• Minimum 10 years of procurement, category management or buying experience in FMCG or manufacturing.
• Proven track record in raw‑materials procurement and strategic sourcing.
• Strong supplier relationship management and contract negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of logistics, clearing & forwarding, innovation and new product development.
