Graphic and Layout Designer

About the role

We are seeking a Graphic and Layout Designer to create engaging visual content for university‑level textbooks. Working closely with subject‑matter experts, you will translate complex academic material into clear, pedagogically sound graphics and layouts that support active learning.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with authors, editors and publishers to conceptualise and produce high‑impact visual assets.
• Design and layout crisp, clean textbook pages while applying cognitive load theory principles.
• Create infographics, diagrams, charts, illustrations and educational cartoons that simplify complex ideas.
• Maintain consistent visual identity and branding across all publications.
• Review and improve existing graphics and layouts to meet pedagogic standards.
• Stay updated on best practices in educational psychology, visual literacy and accessibility.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in graphic design or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in higher‑education publishing.
• Strong eye for detail and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Strategic thinker who values clarity over clutter and welcomes feedback from academics.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite – InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop.
• Experience with Kotobee or similar publishing platforms (bonus).
• Familiarity with multicolumn textbook formats, captioning, glossary integration and responsive digital layout.
• Basic knowledge of XML tagging, LaTeX and accessible PDF structures.
