Graduate Placement - Strategic Communications (Johannesburg)

About the role

FTI Consulting is a global expert firm for organisations facing crisis and transformation, advising multinationals, law firms, banks and private equity firms. Its Strategic Communications practice advises large international and national companies on corporate reputation, including senior counsel, stakeholder engagement, government relations, issues management, thought leadership and media relations. It is looking for a Graduate Consultant to join its Johannesburg team for a one-year full-time placement starting in January/February 2027, working across several team members and client industries. Subject to performance, graduates can continue beyond the initial year.

Key responsibilities

• Gather, interpret and synthesise information from media, policy and market sources to support client engagements
• Support analysis, strategy and execution of digital content, media engagement and stakeholder outreach campaigns
• Help prepare reports, presentations and recommendations for clients
• Take part in a structured learning programme covering media relations, crisis communications, public policy analysis and digital strategy, applied to live projects
• Join a mentorship programme with a dedicated mentor and coach, and build an internal network

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or studies towards an Honours or Master's degree, graduating 2025-2026 or about to graduate in 2027
• Available to start the one-year full-time placement in Johannesburg from January/February 2027
• Degree in Law, Economics, Business, STEM, Engineering, Computer Science, Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Journalism, Development Studies or a related field is preferred, especially with strong analytical, research, digital or communication skills
• Experience or knowledge in digital is preferred
• Detail orientation, time management, self-organisation, teamwork, strong work ethic and outstanding communication skills
• Curiosity about current affairs, policy and business issues is an advantage
