General Worker (Railway Workshop) – Gauteng

About the role

We are looking for a reliable General Worker to support daily operations in our railway workshop in Gauteng. The role involves housekeeping, material handling, equipment preparation and assisting artisans to keep the workshop safe, clean and efficient.

Key responsibilities

• Perform housekeeping duties such as cleaning work areas, floors, pits and equipment.
• Assist artisans, technicians and fitters with maintenance, repair and overhaul tasks.
• Load, unload, move and store materials, tools, equipment and spare parts.
• Prepare tools, equipment and workstations before maintenance activities.
• Operate basic hand tools and workshop equipment safely.
• Remove scrap and dispose of waste according to procedures.
• Assist with lifting and moving heavy components using appropriate lifting equipment under supervision.
• Support stock handling, receiving and issuing of workshop materials.
• Conduct routine inspections, report hazards and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Wear and maintain required PPE at all times and assist during planned shutdowns or emergency repairs.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent; technical qualification is advantageous.
• 1–2 years experience in an industrial, engineering, manufacturing or railway workshop environment.
• Basic understanding of workshop operations, health and safety regulations and housekeeping standards.
• Physically fit, reliable, honest and able to work under pressure.
