General Manager (Retail)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced General Manager to lead the day‑to‑day operations of our retail business in Pretoria. The role focuses on driving sales, ensuring excellent customer service, and delivering profitable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily store operations and ensure smooth execution of all business activities.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and improve profitability.
• Lead and manage store management and operational teams across multiple locations.
• Monitor sales performance, set targets and drive initiatives to achieve them.
• Maintain high standards of customer service and resolve escalated complaints.
• Control inventory, stock management and merchandising activities.
• Manage budgets, expenses and overall financial performance, including P&L.
• Analyse sales reports, market trends and operational data to support decision‑making.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, service providers and key stakeholders.
• Drive operational efficiencies, continuous improvement and loss‑prevention initiatives.
• Recruit, train, mentor and performance‑manage staff, conducting regular reviews.
• Lead promotional and marketing campaigns in collaboration with relevant departments.
• Prepare and present operational and financial reports to senior management.

Required profile

• Relevant degree or diploma in Business Management, Retail Management, Commerce or a related field.
• 5–10 years of retail management experience, preferably overseeing multiple departments or branches.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, P&L and drive financial performance.
• Strong leadership and people‑management capabilities.
• Analytical mindset with solid problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment.
