General Assistant – Drive Thru Yard Department

About the role

Brights Hardware is seeking a physically fit, disciplined, and customer‑focused General Assistant to join its Drive Thru Yard Department at the Blackheath store. This permanent entry‑level role involves assisting customers, loading heavy building supplies, performing stock counts, and maintaining a safe yard environment.

Key responsibilities

• Promptly and safely load purchased hardware and bulk building materials onto customer vehicles, delivery trucks, and inter‑branch transfer vehicles while providing friendly service.
• Pull and assemble stock for deliveries and transfers, ensure yard stock is neatly stacked, secured, and accurately counted.
• Manually bag bulk sand, stone, and aggregates according to store standards.
• Report any stock shortages, damaged goods, or material breakages to yard supervisors.
• Maintain yard housekeeping by sweeping lanes, clearing debris, and removing safety hazards.
• Participate in routine and perpetual stocktakes to keep inventory records accurate.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or equivalent (essential).
• At least 1 year of experience in a similar hardware yard, warehouse, or stock loading role (preferred).
• High level of physical fitness, strength, and stamina for manual material handling and heavy lifting.
• Accurate numerical ability for counting stock items during loading and stocktakes.
• Strong service orientation, reliable, self‑disciplined, and able to work under busy outdoor conditions.
