Fire Engineer

About the role

Our client, a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy, is looking for a Fire Engineer to join their fire engineering team. The role focuses on performance‑based fire design, fire protection system specification and regulatory compliance for commercial, industrial and specialist risk projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop fire rational designs using BS 7974 performance‑based methodology.
• Prepare deemed‑to‑satisfy fire plans in accordance with SANS 10400.
• Design wet and dry fire suppression systems referencing ASIB, SANS, NFPA and FM Global standards.
• Design smoke ventilation systems following EN 12101.
• Conduct fire risk assessments and compliance audits.
• Provide fire engineering input across all ECSA project stages (1‑6).
• Produce technical reports and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of fire engineering experience in a consulting environment.
• Strong knowledge of South African fire standards and the National Building Regulations.
• Experience with performance‑based fire engineering methodologies.
• Exposure to fire suppression and smoke control system design.
• BTech/BEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Engineering or a related discipline.
• ECSA registration or progress toward professional registration is advantageous.
