Financial Director

About the role

The client is a leading operator in freight, logistics, maritime transport and bulk handling based in Durban. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Financial Director will provide strategic financial advice, ensure compliance and oversee the finance function, including information systems, procurement and payroll.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee, review, present and monitor departmental budgets; produce accurate monthly statements for executive management.
• Analyse macro‑economic trends, foreign‑exchange risk and recommend strategic decisions to safeguard long‑term sustainability.
• Represent the company at external stakeholder events and communicate relevant information internally.
• Maintain corporate financial reporting standards, liaise with banks, auditors and service providers.
• Lead Socio‑Economic Development, BBBEE, procurement and supplier‑development strategies.
• Prepare financial feasibility models for capital‑intensive projects and manage annual insurance declarations.
• Recruit, train and manage the finance team; ensure adequate resourcing during load‑shedding periods.
• Maintain finance software, conduct monthly reconciliations and implement internal controls.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior finance roles within logistics, transport or related heavy‑industry sectors.
• Proven ability to lead large finance teams and manage complex budgeting processes.
• Strong understanding of South African financial legislation, BBBEE requirements and corporate governance.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
