Financial Controller – Statutory Accounting

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead the statutory accounting team, ensuring accurate financial reporting and robust internal controls across multiple entities within Momentum Investments. This role combines day‑to‑day accounting operations with strategic finance partnership to support business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Execute general accounting duties, including creditor payments, journal processing, month‑end close, VAT reconciliations and returns.
• Prepare, review and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in line with IFRS and company policies.
• Oversee reporting cycles (Flash, Cognos Controller submissions, AFS compilation) and ensure timely delivery.
• Maintain cost control within budget, implement financial controls and identify optimisation opportunities.
• Perform balance‑sheet and income‑statement reconciliations, variance analysis and provide insightful commentary.
• Support audit processes, resolve audit queries and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
• Manage contract financials, verify commitments and address financial queries promptly.

Required profile

• BCom or BCom Honours degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or CA qualification with 1‑2 years post‑articles experience (preferred).
• Experience in the financial services industry is desirable.
• Strong understanding of internal finance processes, controls and IFRS.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of IFRS and accounting principles.
• Proficiency with JDE or similar ERP systems.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, data validation).
• Experience using Cognos Controller for financial reporting.
