Financial Controller

About the role

A well‑established organisation is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join its finance team. The role supports strong financial controls, accurate financial reporting and effective accounting processes, working across general accounting, reconciliations, journals, financial reporting, variance analysis, budgeting and audit support while providing financial guidance to internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor effective financial controls, policies and procedures.
• Perform general accounting duties accurately and within agreed deadlines.
• Complete monthly balance‑sheet and income‑statement reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Analyse financial information to identify trends, discrepancies and potential risks.
• Prepare and review financial reports for management reporting.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and financial queries.
• Prepare and process monthly journals with accurate GL allocation and supporting documentation.
• Assist with budget preparation, monitoring and identification of cost‑efficiency opportunities.
• Support the audit process, responding to and resolving audit queries within required deadlines.
• Identify financial control risks and recommend improvements to strengthen processes.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Financial Management or a related field.
• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Experience in financial accounting, financial control or a similar finance role.
• Strong understanding of financial controls and accounting processes.
• Practical experience with GL accounting, reconciliations, journals and financial reporting.
• Experience analysing financial information and investigating variances.
• Exposure to internal or external audit processes.
• Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
• Good understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
