Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive Financial Controller to join our finance team in Johannesburg. You will manage day‑to‑day accounting activities, support budgeting and forecasting, ensure statutory compliance, and drive continuous improvement of finance processes.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and process monthly journal entries.
• Assist with external and internal audits.
• Perform bank, supplier, customer and general ledger reconciliations.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register and calculate depreciation.
• Prepare VAT, PAYE, UIF and other statutory working papers.
• Support budgets, forecasts and cash‑flow reporting.
• Analyse costs, investigate variances and identify improvement opportunities.
• Automate repetitive finance tasks and enhance process efficiency.
• Provide ad‑hoc financial analysis and support special projects for the Finance Manager.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of commercial accounting experience.
• Experience in manufacturing or FMCG environments is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, organisational and communication abilities.
• B.Com Accounting or equivalent qualification.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel.
• Proficiency with ERP accounting systems such as Power BI, SAP, Sage, Syspro or Microsoft Dynamics.
• Knowledge of South African VAT, PAYE and UIF regulations.
• Understanding of BOM costing and stock inventory management.
