Financial Controller

About the role

Norman Goodfellows is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to safeguard the integrity of its financial systems and ensure timely, accurate reporting and compliance. The role will lead control, accounting and payables functions, providing robust governance across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee month‑end close, produce management accounts and maintain General Ledger integrity.
• Prepare balance‑sheet reconciliations, annual financial statements and coordinate external audits.
• Enforce internal controls over journal entries, user access and system configurations.
• Manage VAT, PAYE and corporate tax compliance and support statutory reporting cycles.
• Supervise Accounts Payable, Bank & Cash and Expense Control teams, ensuring policy adherence.
• Govern the ERP finance environment, maintain accurate posting controls and audit trails.
• Maintain 13‑week cash‑flow forecasts, monitor DSO and coordinate rebate cash‑out timing.
• Partner with CFO and FP&A on budgeting, forecasting and drive finance‑process automation initiatives.

Required profile

• CA(SA) or equivalent professional qualification.
• 5–8 years post‑articles experience in financial control, audit or corporate accounting.
• Proven track record managing financial close, tax compliance and audit processes.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and South African regulatory frameworks.
• Experience in FMCG, retail or distribution sectors is advantageous.
• Detail‑oriented, disciplined, high integrity and effective communicator.

• ERP systems – preferably Syspro.
• IFRS accounting standards.
