Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead E‑XHALE’s internal finance function, acting as the main bridge to the external accounting firm while overseeing a team of bookkeepers. This senior position requires a commercially‑focused finance professional who can manage day‑to‑day financial operations, drive system improvements and provide accurate financial intelligence to support business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison with the third‑party accounting firm, coordinating year‑end, audit and statutory submissions.
• Lead, manage and develop a team of four bookkeepers, setting performance expectations and allocating responsibilities across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and reconciliations.
• Own the month‑end close process, delivering timely management accounts, cash‑flow forecasts, budgets and variance analysis for the Managing Director.
• Monitor financial performance against targets, flagging risks, shortfalls and opportunities while ensuring compliance with South African statutory requirements.
• Assess current financial systems and processes, identifying and implementing improvements and automation opportunities.

Required profile

• Commercially minded finance professional with several years of experience in financial control or senior accounting roles.
• Proven ability to manage operational finance processes and lead a small finance team.
• Strong understanding of South African accounting standards and statutory compliance.
• High degree of ownership, initiative and ability to work independently while reporting to senior management.
