Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead the day‑to‑day financial operations of a multi‑entity Group, ensuring accurate reporting, robust treasury management and compliance with IFRS and internal controls. This senior position reports to senior management and works closely with the Board and external auditors.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes.
• Oversee transactional finance activities including cash, payroll, creditors, debtors, fixed assets and revenue accounting.
• Direct treasury operations, monitor liquidity, handle payment cycles and short‑term cash flow management.
• Prepare financial reporting inputs, analysis and operational KPIs for management, Board and committee reporting.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, IFRS requirements and internal financial controls.
• Maintain master data integrity and transactional controls within ERP systems.
• Review intercompany transactions and perform consolidations, journal entries and variance analysis.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and provide operational insights.
• Coordinate statutory, tax and regulatory filings and act as primary contact for external auditors.
• Identify finance risks, control gaps and drive process improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.
• Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles with at least 3 years post‑article experience in a similar role.
• 3‑5 years of team management experience.
• Professional designation such as CA(SA), AGA(SA) or Professional Accountant (SA) is advantageous.
• Experience operating in South Africa and multiple East African jurisdictions.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting standards.
• Proficiency with ERP/financial systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
