Financial Controller

About the role

Momentum Group is seeking a Financial Controller to lead and support the statutory accounting function across several entities. The role combines day‑to‑day accounting operations with strategic financial reporting and control responsibilities, acting as a key business partner to the finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Execute general accounting duties, including creditor payments, journal uploads, month‑end close, VAT reconciliations and returns.
• Prepare, review and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in line with IFRS and company policies.
• Oversee reporting cycles (Flash, Cognos Controller submissions, AFS compilation) and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Maintain cost control within budget parameters and implement robust financial controls.
• Identify optimisation opportunities and drive process improvements.
• Perform balance‑sheet and income‑statement reconciliations and provide variance analysis.

Required profile

• BCom/BCom Honours with at least 5 years relevant experience, or CA with 1‑2 years post‑articles experience.
• Experience in the financial services industry is preferred.
• Strong understanding of internal finance processes, controls and relevant transaction systems.
• In‑depth knowledge of IFRS, accounting principles and financial reporting standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with JDE or a comparable ERP system.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, data validation).
• Experience using Cognos Controller for financial reporting.
• Solid knowledge of IFRS and accounting standards.
