Financial Controller – Automotive Retail

About the role

We are seeking a senior Financial Controller to join our fast‑growing automotive retail group in Sandton, Johannesburg. Reporting directly to the Group CFO, you will own the finance compliance function and ensure the integrity of group numbers across all entities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, enforce and maintain the control framework for entity‑level and consolidated reporting.
• Act as the final checkpoint on disputed or judgement‑call numbers before they reach the CFO.
• Lead the Finance Compliance Department, holding sign‑off authority on VAT, PAYE, income tax and provisional tax matters.
• Manage statutory reporting, liaise with external auditors and drive the transition to an internal, audit‑ready finance function.
• Oversee tax compliance, corporate income tax, VAT and provisional tax filings with SARS.
• Develop internal control systems, handle tax disputes and ensure compliance with IFRS/GAAP.

Required profile

• Senior finance professional with extensive experience in group finance control and compliance.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to critically review and challenge financial data.
• Proven leadership skills to build and scale a finance team.
