Financial Accountant

About the role

Fruitways, a leading agri‑business specialising in apples and pears, is looking for a proactive Financial Accountant to join its dynamic team at the Marketing Office in Somerset West. Reporting to the Group Financial Manager, you will ensure accurate financial reporting and support management decision‑making in a deadline‑driven environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger, reconcile inter‑company loans and transactions, and investigate income‑statement variances.
• Prepare and collect monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations in line with company guidelines.
• Review and report exceptions for creditors control, debtors control and bank reconciliation.
• Initiate, prepare and process standard and adjusting monthly journals; distribute general‑ledger reports to operational personnel.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing draft management accounts, forecast data and monthly management packs.
• Implement financial control processes to identify risk and improve efficiency.
• Check, approve and release EFT payments; verify petty‑cash and credit‑card transactions.
• Maintain documentation of process descriptions and evaluate them with management.
• Manage the Forward Exchange Contract policy for foreign‑currency fruit sales.
• Support the Finance department with ad‑hoc projects.

Required profile

• 3‑year diploma or degree in accounting or finance (post‑graduate degree advantageous).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
• SAICA/SAIPA articles or similar professional qualification advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
