Field Services Technician – FMCG Equipment

About the role

An established supplier of specialised equipment to the food manufacturing and processing industry is looking for an experienced Field Services Technician to join its Cape Town technical team. The role is field‑based, requiring travel to customer sites across the region to install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot and repair industrial FMCG machinery.

Key responsibilities

• Attend customer sites to diagnose machinery faults and breakdowns.
• Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical and instrumentation problems.
• Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Install, commission and test new machinery and equipment.
• Conduct equipment trials, interpret results and provide technical recommendations.
• Provide training and practical guidance to customers.
• Read and interpret manuals, blueprints, mechanical schematics and electrical diagrams.
• Prepare quotations, complete job cards and service reports accurately.
• Participate in the standby and on‑call rotation, including occasional weekends.

Required profile

• Trade‑tested Millwright with a strong electrical and instrumentation background.
• Minimum 5 years post‑trade experience in FMCG, food‑processing or beverage environments.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair complex industrial machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical diagrams and technical documentation.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively throughout Cape Town.
• Computer literacy for completing job cards and service reports.
