Field Service & Workshop Technician (MEWP)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) Technician to join our team in Cape Town. The role involves servicing, maintaining, fault‑finding and repairing a rental fleet of MEWPs, including boom lifts, cherry pickers, scissor lifts, telehandlers and associated fleet vehicles. This is a hands‑on position for a qualified technician who can work independently with minimal supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair MEWPs and other mobile equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control‑system faults.
• Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing.
• Attend workshop and on‑site breakdowns.
• Inspect and prepare equipment before hire, including pre‑delivery inspections and safety checks.
• Complete job cards, inspection sheets and service reports.
• Maintain high workmanship standards and equipment reliability.
• Work safely and professionally in both workshop and customer sites.

Required profile

• Proven post‑trade experience as a technician with strong fault‑finding and diagnostic ability.
• Experience working on mobile machinery, good mechanical and hydraulic knowledge.
• Ability to diagnose electrical/auto‑electrical systems.
• Valid driver’s licence and safety‑conscious attitude.
• Direct experience with MEWPs or similar access equipment is a significant advantage.
• Relevant trade background such as MEWP Technician, Forklift Technician, Diesel Mechanic or Yellow Metal Plant.
