Field Guide – Luxury Wilderness Lodge in Clanwilliam

About the role

The position is for a Field Guide at a high‑end wilderness reserve and wellness retreat in the Western Cape. You will lead guests through safe, engaging and environmentally responsible activities while delivering memorable cultural and natural interpretations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and conduct guided walks, canoe trips, mountain‑bike rides and night sky observations.
• Operate and maintain a 4×4 vehicle, canoe, recurve bow, arrow, telescope and fly‑fishing equipment.
• Identify animal tracks, signs and major flora, and share knowledge of local fauna, flora and Bushman rock art.
• Ensure guest safety, comfort and enjoyment throughout all activities.
• Adopt low‑impact, eco‑friendly guiding practices and support the lodge’s sustainability goals.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence, PDP and First Aid certificate.
• DEAT registration and FGASA Level 1 Field Guide qualification.
• At least 2 years experience as a Field Guide, preferably in a luxury lodge setting.
• Strong knowledge of Western Cape fauna, flora and cultural heritage.
• Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
