Facilities Coordinator

About the role

This internal advertisement seeks a Facilities Coordinator for the Canelands Distribution Center in Durban. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the role is responsible for overseeing contractors, maintenance activities, and ensuring optimal uptime of all plant and equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all contractors and suppliers within the assigned area.
• Oversee repairs and maintenance to keep the facility operational.
• Approve all on‑site jobs promptly and verify invoices against job cards.
• Maintain service level agreements (SLAs) with contractors.
• Ensure maximum uptime for all machines and equipment.
• Obtain and compare quotes for services and materials required for DC maintenance.
• Monitor and verify correct pressure settings on fire systems.
• Check diesel levels on generators and boilers and keep the grey‑water plant fully operational.
• Ensure gas monitoring and automatic generator positioning are functional.
• Verify that all contractors meet SHEQ legislative requirements before site entry.
• Conduct daily and weekly inspections and attend formal meetings with Operations/Facilities Manager as needed.
• Manage ad‑hoc facility‑related projects and provide timely feedback on activities.

Required profile

• Available for standby duties when required.
• Diploma or degree (or related qualification) in a relevant field.
• Minimum three years’ experience in a similar role within a warehouse environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills.
• Customer‑service orientation with planning and organising abilities.
• Resilience under stress and a valid driver’s licence with own vehicle.
