Expert Data Engineer (SAP BW & AWS Big Data) – Contract

About the role

Our client is seeking an Expert Data Engineer to join the core Data Science and Engineering team within a global IT hub. The role focuses on the "Volume & Capacity Management and QMT Frontdesk" product portfolio, driving plant‑level capacity management, supply planning and manufacturing control across multiple production sites.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the migration of the product from ABW to CBW, including deployment, testing and troubleshooting.
• Design and implement hybrid data architectures that connect SAP BW on/for HANA with AWS Big Data pipelines and optimization engines such as Gurobi.
• Develop and maintain data models, ETL processes and data pipelines using ABAP, SQL, AMDP, CDS Views, Python and PySpark.
• Collaborate with data scientists, DevOps squads and corporate stakeholders to define short‑ and long‑term technical strategies.
• Provide architectural ownership and resolve escalated integration issues independently.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing and SAP BW architecture.
• Proven expertise in SAP BW 7.5, SAP BW on/for HANA, ABAP, SQL, AMDP and CDS Views.
• Strong background in cloud data services, especially AWS Glue, Step Functions, Lambda, EventBridge, CloudWatch, S3 and Athena.
• Hands‑on experience with Python, PySpark, Snowflake, CDH and optimization tools such as Gurobi.
• Ability to work autonomously, negotiate technical strategies and lead cross‑functional teams.
