Experienced Toolmaker - Plastic Manufacturing

About the role

An established plastic manufacturing company in Germiston is looking for an experienced Toolmaker to maintain, repair, modify and produce injection and blow moulding tools, jigs and fixtures. The role is permanent and essential for minimizing production downtime while upholding high‑quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, service and modify injection and blow moulding tools and moulds.
• Diagnose tooling, mould and machine faults and carry out corrective actions.
• Manufacture and fit inserts, pins, bushes, plates and other tooling components.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on moulds, tools, jigs and fixtures.
• Assist with mould changes, trials and commissioning of new or modified tooling.
• Interpret technical drawings, samples, measurements and specifications to produce accurate parts.
• Operate milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, drilling machines and other toolroom equipment.
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify tolerances.
• Respond to breakdowns promptly and complete repairs within production deadlines.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safety‑compliant toolroom.

Required profile

• Qualified Toolmaker or recognised trade qualification.
• Previous toolmaking experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably plastic manufacturing.
• Experience with injection moulding and/or blow moulding tooling is highly advantageous.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and practical fault‑finding ability.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Willingness to work overtime and assist with breakdowns when required.

Required skills

• Operation of milling machines, lathes, surface grinders and drilling machines.
• Use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, CMM).
• Interpretation of technical drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of injection and blow moulding tool design.
• Toolroom machinery handling and maintenance.
