Experienced Scrub Nurse – Theatre (R/N)

About the role

The Professional Scrub Nurse/Clinical Nurse provides holistic, patient‑centred care within the operating theatre at Netcare Mulbarton Hospital. Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and the multidisciplinary team, the nurse ensures safe, high‑quality intra‑operative care for each patient.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients before, during and after surgery to guarantee optimal care.
• Prepare, check, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring sterility and functionality.
• Manage stock levels, control inventory, and oversee charging of surgical supplies.
• Document capital expenditure and equipment preferences as required by surgeons.
• Participate actively in clinical governance and adhere to hospital policies and standards.
• Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary health team and act as a role model for evidence‑based practice.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (R/N) with proven experience as a Scrub Nurse in an operating theatre.
• Strong knowledge of theatre protocols, infection control and patient safety standards.
• Ability to work autonomously, make clinical decisions and be accountable for actions.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and support staff.
