Environmental Officer – Wind Farm Construction

About the role

The Environmental Officer will manage health, safety and environmental (HSE) aspects on site during the construction of the Goldwind Wind Farm near Bedford. You will ensure compliance with South African legislation, company policies and ISO standards while fostering a strong safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce compliance with OHS Act, MHS Act, ISO health and safety standards, and other applicable regulations.
• Conduct safety inductions, internal training, risk assessments and daily site inspections.
• Prepare and maintain emergency evacuation plans, incident reports, and environmental monitoring registers.
• Carry out regular safety and environmental audits, and report findings to the ECO.
• Compile daily monitoring reports on environmental compliance and submit weekly updates.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and spills, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety, Environmental Studies or related field.
• Familiarity with construction activities for wind farms, substations and transmission lines.
• Knowledge of South African OHS legislation and construction regulations.
• Ability to lead training sessions and communicate safety responsibilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Risk assessment development and execution.
