Engineer of Record – Tailings Management

About the role

Knight Piésold, a leading international consulting firm, is looking for an experienced Engineer of Record (EOR) to lead the design, operation and stewardship of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs). This senior position will support world‑class tailings management solutions for mining clients across Africa and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Engineer of Record for assigned TSFs throughout their lifecycle.
• Provide technical oversight, conduct dam safety reviews and risk assessments.
• Ensure compliance with international standards (GISTM, CDA, ANCOLD) and best practices.
• Lead construction monitoring, QA/QC, site supervision and technical audits.
• Deliver independent technical reviews and support clients with sustainable tailings solutions.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Civil Engineering and registration with ECSA (PrEng/PrTech Eng).
• Minimum 15 years of civil engineering experience, focused on TSFs.
• Proven experience in leading consulting or engineering firms handling tailings management.
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.

Required skills

• Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) design and management.
• Geotechnical engineering for tailings facilities.
• Dam safety reviews, risk assessments and compliance.
• Construction monitoring, QA/QC, site supervision.
• Technical audits and independent reviews.
• Knowledge of Extreme Consequence Classification.
• Familiarity with GISTM, CDA and ANCOLD standards.
