Emergency Care Technician (ECT) – Industrial Site

About the role

To attend to site‑based emergency calls and provide medical care within the scope of practice on industrial mining sites. The position is a three‑year fixed‑term contract with Mediclinic’s ER24 division, based in Gauteng, South Africa. New mining sites are opening at Emalahleni, Ogies, Middleburg/Belfast, Bethal, Secunda, Lephalale, Heidelberg, Ndou and Aphane, offering a dynamic work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure operational readiness for emergency calls across multiple mining locations.
• Administer patient care in line with the Emergency Care Technician scope of practice.
• Provide professional emergency services to site‑based clients, including rapid response and on‑site treatment.
• Perform basic shift administration services and maintain accurate patient report forms.
• Travel to and coordinate emergency response at the listed mining sites as required.

Required profile

• Emergency Care Technician qualification or a higher certificate in emergency medical care.
• Newly qualified ECT or operational EMS experience; 1 year EMS operational experience is desirable.
• Successful completion of physical fitness and medical assessment.
• Willingness to complete Clinical Practice Guidelines training during probation if not already compliant.

Required skills

• Knowledge of HPCSA guidelines and scope of practice.
• Ability to comprehensively complete patient report forms.
• Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
• Computer literacy, specifically Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation (OSH Act, Mine Health and Safety Act) and risk management.
